Explora Journeys’ decision to base two of its ships in the waters of the Red Sea and Arabian Peninsula in the 2027-2028 cruising season comes as demand for travel to the region soars, according to VP International Sales Antonio Paradiso.
The newly unveiled season will see both EXPLORA I and new addition EXPLORA V based in the region as its popularity rises. The program will also offer 30 overnight stays, giving travellers an opportunity for even greater immersion.
The deployment builds on the 2026-27 season which will see Explora Journeys base one ship, EXPLORA II, in the region for the first time.

“The region is growing rapidly in appeal, offering ancient civilisations, world-class heritage sites such as Luxor, Petra and AlUla, and vibrant modern cities like Dubai and Muscat,” Paradiso told LATTE.
“Guests are increasingly fascinated by the blend of ancient heritage and modern vibrancy. The appeal lies in the contrasts – from the Pyramids of Giza and the temples of Luxor to Saudi Arabia’s extraordinary AlUla and the futuristic skylines of Dubai and Doha.”
Demand is particularly strong from Australia, Europe and North America, but also from Asian markets due to proximity, Paradiso revealed.

“With extended stays in ports like Dubai, Muscat, Jeddah and Safaga, guests can immerse themselves in this region in a way that feels new, authentic and culturally rewarding.”
The decision to really double down on Red Sea voyages is aligned with Explora Journeys commitment to thinking outside the parameters of more traditional cruise offerings, outside Paradiso.
“Innovation is at the heart of what we do, and while competition is strong, we see it as a catalyst to continue pushing boundaries,” he said. “Our goal is not just to create itineraries, but to design journeys that feel fresh, immersive and culturally meaningful.”

He highlighted the decision to debut EXPLORA V in the “Quiet Mediterranean” as another example of this approach.
“The region is the most in-demand cruise destination in the world, but nearly all capacity is concentrated in summer,” he pointed out. “By offering a winter program we present a fresh perspective – the same history, architecture and culture, but without the heat and crowds. Guests can engage with destinations in a calmer, more authentic way, from Rome and Istanbul to La Valletta and Split.”
Paradiso highlighted the New Year’s Eve celebration in Naples as a signature experience of the program, with the Italian city’s celebrated fireworks viewed from the sea.
“In essence, these itineraries provide intimacy and depth that are rarely available in the Mediterranean,” he said.
